This initiative which happens to be first of its kind in the South Southern part of Nigeria aims to enhance traffic administration, facilitate traffic planning, drive vehicle document compliance, improved state security, and enhance the internally generated revenue for the state.
In attendance at the kick off meeting were key stakeholders, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Honorable Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, the Honorable Commissioner of Science & Technology, Mr. Odinigwe Odigie, Executive Director, Delta State BIR, Prof Frank Nwugo, representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Vehicle Inspection Agency, Security agencies, other major ministries and parastatals in Delta State and technology partners from SoftAlliance.
In his address, Dr. Kingsley Emu emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to leveraging technology to tackle rising road insecurity and ensuring vehicle documentations. He expressed that the introduction of the PlateDetect ANPR solution is a strategic approach for traffic administration, vehicle registration validation, traffic law enforcement, improved IGR and advance security surveillance operations across the state.
The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, described the ANPR solution as a “two-headed application” that will significantly benefit the state in two key areas such as road traffic management and boosting internally generated revenue (IGR). He expressed the ministry’s eagerness to adopt the solution, noting that the technology will help the government automatically verify vehicle license registration and detect defaulters in real-time.
“The PlateDetect ANPR solution will not only improve road safety and security for Deltans but will also streamline the verification of vehicle licenses, ensuring that transporters are safe while fulfilling their obligations to the state. This will ultimately help the government generate more revenue without human interference,” he said. During the session, the representative of the Nigerian Army commended the initiative and inquired if the PlateDetect system could extend its capabilities to capture some security requirements
Responding to the inquiry, Director, Business development SoftAlliance, Kolawole Lasaki explained that PlateDetect solution is highly extensive and adaptable to support advanced security features. The ANPR solution will play a crucial role in the Delta State Government’s digital transformation agenda to promote smart governance.
The kick-off meeting marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards leveraging technology for sustainable security and revenue generation.
